Reflecting on the Year and Honouring Your Own Journey
As the year comes to a close, I have a tradition, to take time reflecting on the year just passed and write a letter to my future self, and read my own letter from the past year. This is my time to reflect. To notice what has changed. To be present. And this is my invitation to you. If you’re pregnant or a new mum, this reflection can feel especially tender. Your body, your identity, your priorities, everything may look and feel different from this time last year.
This is a gentle reminder that there is no right way to have experienced this year. Wherever you are right now is worthy of honour.

Your Journey Is Yours Alone
The reason why I write myself a letter each year is to remind myself that my journey is unique and to reflect on the past year experiences.
Pregnancy and early motherhood have a way of inviting comparison. We compare bumps, births, recoveries, feeding journeys, sleep, energy levels, emotions, often without even realising we’re doing it.
One mum’s journey is not a measure for another’s. One pregnancy is not a benchmark. One postpartum experience is not a rule. Your body, your baby, your family, and your circumstances are uniquely yours.
This year may have been joyful. It may have been challenging. It may have been both, sometimes all in the same day. Honour that and stop comparing yourself to other people around you.
When the noise of comparison or expectation creeps in, breath is one of the simplest ways to return home to yourself.
A few slow, steady breaths, in through the nose, out through the mouth, can help calm your nervous system and soften your mind. It’s a reminder that right now, in this moment, you are safe, supported, and enough.
Breath doesn’t ask you to fix anything. It simply asks you to notice.
A Gentle Invitation to reflect on the Year Ends
As you are reflecting on this year, I invite you to write yourself a letter to open next year and to ask yourself:
What has my body carried me through?
What strength have I discovered, even quietly?
What do I need more of as I move forward?
Yoga as a Practice of Presence, Not Performance
In pregnancy and postnatal yoga, we don’t come to compare bodies, flexibility, or experiences. We come to listen to ourselves.
Yoga is a space where you show up for yourself, your baby, and your family — exactly as you are that day. Some days that might look like gentle movement. Other days, it might look like stillness, breath, or simply resting.
There is no competition here. No expectation to keep up. No pressure to be anywhere other than where you are.
Every practice is a chance to tune in rather than measure yourself against others.
In my pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes, we practice coming back to ourselves, honouring your body, your baby, and your own journey. You are always welcome, just as you are. Join me online or in studio in South West London.
Sending you love for this new year, and wishing you all the things you desire for the year ahead.
