Why I Became a Doula (And Why I Care So Much About Supporting YOU)

Since as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by pregnancy, birth and newborn babies.

When it came to choosing a career, becoming a nurse felt like the natural path for me. Life had other plans along the way, and after my granddad became ill, I found myself drawn towards caring for children. Children's nursing became my world, and for 11 years I have worked as a NICU nurse supporting babies and their families through some of the most challenging and emotional moments of their lives.

But what I loved most wasn't just caring for the babies.

It was supporting the parents.

Helping them grow in confidence. Watching them learn to trust themselves. Seeing them realise that they were exactly what their baby needed.

Over the years I attended many births, and one particular moment stayed with me. I witnessed a mum give birth in a parking lot. It was incredible, powerful and a reminder of just how amazing the human body can be.

That experience sparked something in me.

I knew I wanted to support families earlier in their journey, before birth, not just after.

So I completed my Pregnancy Yoga training, and from there my path led me to becoming a doula.

Why I Chose to Train as a Doula

The more I learned about birth, the more I wanted to understand the incredible physiology behind it.

I became fascinated by how our bodies are designed to grow, birth and nurture babies. I wanted to learn more about birth, recovery and postpartum care, but most importantly, I wanted to help women feel informed, supported and confident throughout the process.

Being invited into such a special chapter of someone's life is a privilege I never take for granted.

There is something incredibly rewarding about helping a woman tune into her body, trust her instincts and feel supported every step of the way.

Why Families Choose to Work With Me

Every doula brings something different, and here's what I bring to the families I support.

I have over 10 years of NHS experience working with babies and families.

I am a neonatal specialist and have spent years supporting parents through those early newborn days. I understand both the emotional and practical side of caring for a baby.

I also take a holistic approach to pregnancy, birth and postpartum recovery.

For me, support isn't just about what happens during labour. It's about preparing your body, understanding your options, building confidence and having the right support around you.

My work combines:

  • Birth and postpartum education

  • Pregnancy yoga and movement

  • Breathwork

  • Evidence-based information

  • Postpartum recovery support

  • Practical newborn guidance

I'm also passionate about busting myths and helping families navigate the overwhelming amount of information that exists online today. That's one of the reasons I created my podcast and online courses — so parents can access reliable, supportive information whenever they need it.

Why Yoga Became Such a Big Part of My Work

Many people know me through yoga, but what they may not know is why yoga means so much to me.

Around ten years ago, I lost someone very close to me.

During my grieving journey, I discovered yoga.

Yoga became a way to reconnect with myself. It helped me connect with my body, my breath and my mind during a difficult period of my life.

That experience changed me. And it is a big reason why I support expectant and new parents through movement today.

I want families to experience that same connection and trust within themselves.

Bringing Families Back to What Matters

We live in a world that often tells us preparing for a baby means buying all the things.

The perfect nursery.

The perfect pram.

The perfect baby clothes.

The latest gadgets.

But in my experience, preparing for parenthood is about something much deeper.

It's about:

  • Learning to trust your body

  • Understanding your options

  • Connecting with your intuition

  • Building confidence

  • Creating a support network around you

Those are the foundations that truly matter.

And that's exactly what I aim to help families build through my doula support, yoga classes, online courses and podcast.

Because every parent deserves to feel informed, supported and confident as they step into this new chapter.

And I would be honoured to walk alongside you on that journey.

If you're preparing for birth, navigating pregnancy, or looking for trusted postpartum support, explore my online courses and listen to the podcast. My goal is to give you practical, evidence-based guidance that helps you feel calm, confident and supported every step of the way.
